Getting Into the Groove

Hi there -

Hope that this post finds you well. We are all doing well here and I officially feel like we are getting into a groove. We all had a great week - Gavi returned to gan, Joel to yeshiva and Koby and myself got back to our little routine.

Gavi is doing amazing at his gan! Not to boast, but the gan coordinator called him a little angel (just like his name). He is still with the older kids, but he may actually switch to the 2.5 year old group next week. We'll know for sure in the next few days.

Koby is officially furniture walking! He's definitely on the move and at this rate I think that he'll be walking in the next month or so. He's more or less off baby food and eating more table food all the time. He LOVES bread and would probably eat it all day if he had the choice. We've started calling him a little bread monster. He even got his first taste of pizza this week!

We also finally met our landlords this week and they are AMAZING!! They live in New York and own the apartment next door to us as a vacation spot. They were here over the last few weeks and have been so generous. They bought us a dryer - until now we've been hanging all of our laundry, which at this time of year takes about 4 days for a load to dry! I have never in my life appreciated an appliance so much. They even gave Gavi a Fisher Price fire truck for Chanukah, which is a hot commodity here since American toys are so expensive. We feel so lucky to have such great landlords.

In the last few weeks we have also had our first shabbos guests over in our new place. It was great to be hosting again. I am still getting used to my oven, which is very old and German. Instead of the regular temperature settings it has the numbers 1, 2, 3.....etc. I'm not quite sure what they mean, but I'm trying to make due. It'll come with time and hopefully not too many inedible dishes.

A short word on the political situation. I'm sure that you are all following it closely on CNN or some other news station. Please do not worry about us, we are totally safe in Jerusalem. Things in the city feel very normal and people are still out and about. The government has beefed up security in the city and we hear helicopters all the time (extra security for the Knesset, which we can see from our window), but that's pretty much it. I pray for the safety of our soldiers and with G-d's help the Gaza operation will be successful and short.

Lots of love,

Rachel & Co.

Rachel and Co...

It's been a while. Looks like things are really grogressing in Eretz ha'Kodesh! It's terrible to hear about what's happening in gaza, but I'm glad to hear everything in Yerusholayim is good. Keep the updates and pictures coming!!

Jonah
